5/7/2022- "Tomorrow, when the war began" by John marsden- 10M English Paragraphs

 Text Type - Novel Study

Text Title - Tomorrow when the war began

Author - John Marsden

Ellie Linton, A character in the Story Tomorrow when the war began, an adolescent from a coastal region of Australia with her friends on an outing for a camping trip in tailor's stitch. The camp lies in a deep forest dubbed, ‘Hell” by the locals of Wirewee. However, upon their return, the teenagers discover that their families, friends, and fellow locals within the town of Wirewee were imprisoned by an Alien Military force from another country. Ellie and her friends have to assemble and unite after they are caught scouting about by the invaders. They retreat back and strike when they have laid a proper base, this is the beginning of their war/engagement against their mysterious enemy..

I believe that the message of this text is Survival. Survival has been a vital factor in the story as they’re first venture in hell came towards the end. When Ellie and her group of friends discover that their town, that their country had been invaded, they began to gather supplies necessary in aiding them in hell and their war. When they came upon the town and how the residents were being subjected to imprisonment they began making plans to assist themselves in surviving Hell. After researching about war in other countries like Ukraine and about ordinary typical teenage lifestyles, Does Ellie and her Friends have what it takes to survive the war and Hell. Ellie and her people are preemptive in the situation within the tale, I say it because they exhibit raw determination and strong morals In their journey of survival and miseres. Their qualities are high because they demonstrate competence, Resourcefulness, Organization, and bravery in the face of their adversaries when confronted by the invaders. One instance was in the showground where these existing qualities were put on the strengthening point.

My favorite character and a positive role model from the story to me, in tomorrow when the war began, by the Author John Marstan is the character Homer. He is profoundly known as a troublemaker in the eyes of his friends, he's just a prankster to them and others. He lets this happen due to all the attention and positivity it brings to others day in consequence of it.  He is Ellie's neighbor and childhood friend, they are well acquainted until Homer decides to show his true self. After the group leaves hell and discovers everyone missing, there are traces of an invasion in past events from hell. Homer changes into an incredible leader who is organizing the group well, and supposedly gives back morals to their dire straits. One situation of his quick adept into a leader role is when he splits the group into a scouting party to cover more ground and lessen the chance of encountering a foe. He also was helpful in attempting to make a close explosive out of a lawnmower with Ellie to defend themselves from enemies following their position. Without him, they wouldn't have gathered the necessary resources in time or convinced Ellie that they could think up something to get out unscathed. His motivation and creative thinking deserve to be recognised in my opinion because he takes risks and ensures that everyone's efforts can accomplish bigger things.

In the novel, ‘Tomorrow, when the war began’, by the Author John Marston ,something that I had to rethink about was when Homer said that the only risk is to not take any risk. It was brought to my attention that I believe this to be important because they had done some incredible feets and were able to progress discretionary through the starting stages of their war. I Think the Author John Marsden conveys that an ideal and most important message to think upon from the novel is and a quote ''the only risk is to not take risks at all”. This quote is from a character named Homer. He is a natural leader who takes charge in the story when they're in direstrights. It made me question how real this quote is in the real world. I suppose that the war happening in Ukraine had been one situation where civilians and soldiers alike had to band together strategies to push back their invaders which would be risky to their lives. But without their risks, the invaders would cover more ground and have the advantage over the ukraine's and put them into an even worse situation. By risking their lives, they had opened new doors and opportunities to buy time and gather intel on their enemies. Like in the story, Elie, Corrie, and Keven had investigated the town for people and discovered that they were being held captive. They got shot at but they reasonably gathered tons of information that prevented their own from any losses. I think that this story is insightful and full of good wisdom to have off hand.

I believe that the novel is very good and I would recommend it to others because the characters are depicted to be normal teenagers, their perspective on the invasion had changed my own view of things. So because of that, I give it a 8/10. But I would not recommend it to a younger audience because of reasons.

Thanks for reading!!.

Creation of a College- Hell (The place described in the book- tomorrow when the war began).

It is a wild place. Full of brown and green. Deep forest and rocky terrain.

This image is a reminder to the river they had walked, most likely the one heading down the path. It looks quiet and shady. Not a place you would call hell, actually it's the opposite. It's a sanctuary.

These are Satan's steps. They are large ridges like blocks heading in an upwards direction. These led up to hell. Again, inst hell is supposed to be a pit of eternal doom?

There are many gaps between the blocks that can be used to climb up. Here we see just above the second step of hell. It has many patches of grass. It also looks very secluded too.

The Forest like area from where the path had led to. It's an above canopy view. A view above the helter skelter. A place where children are being confused and reckless.

The hole leading within the crack had led to a creek with lots of water to wash sweat off of. This looks like a paradise that would hold a beautiful home. Why would hell be so lushus, is it called hell because of the hermit?

A better view of the region by satins steps near hell. Looks like a place in Lion king.

7/6/22- Social Studies- Nz and North korea Government comparison Assessment

Reflection of Topic North Korea's Government comparison Assignment

This is my end of term Social Studies topic, It is indulgent in government comparison and past to prior knowledge that we’ve read.

In the country North Korea, it is ruled under the iron fist of the kim family, this dictatorship government can have a far better deterrent on crimes within. However, it gains far more benefits from international governments alliances by achieving easier negotiations from the dictators position. This can create far better opportunities for the country and people.

New Zealand's government is run by a parliamentary system that can place legislations easily to the public as the executive branch is reliant on the support of the legislative branch . Also the majority party is responsible for their decisions, this means that the prime minister has to constantly improve him/herself so that they can encourage cooperation. It is known as a constitutional monarchy located in the oceania.

The similarities between New Zealand's parliamentary system + constitutional monarchy and North Korea's Dictatorship are that both do not have proper if any  legislative branches and and a executive roles correcting absurd laws. They both are able to pass down legsations without anything to prevent them. The main heads of both countries have acquired all the power in their distinct governments. Their power cannot be overruled. Korea is a dictatorship meaning that the rulers can do whatever they want, and New Zealand's rule can only be overruled by the queen who isn't in New Zealand but still remains as sovereign of state general. But the prime minister has more power in New Zealand then Queen Elizabeth ll because she only represents them. The prime minister has more seats in parliament meaning that most of the votes can pass through if the labor party wants to.

Masicare tradition- Social studies holocaust- 21/3/22

malo a lelei, talofa lava, tena koutou katoa, this post is about the holocaust. I don't have to stress the astrocytes in the ll world war, they are revolting. The information here I can honestly say is saddening. All evidence is new to me, useful too but very gruesome. My feelings were very all over the place by at the very least I was fine. BBC.co.uk was a great source of information and very explicit well also being insightful. I hope this never happens again. I still live as I know that our futures may be in good hands. This is my synopsis of my writing and i'm glad to say it checks out in the best way. what happened? how did it all begin and when did it all stop?

Report Template- Metal Technology- Prince Rupert's Drop

10 MTY Prince Rupert’s Drop Introduction -
 What is Prince Rupert's Drop?
A Prince Rupert’s drop occurs when you have some molten glass melting off of a tool of any kind into a container filled with cold water. Once it cools down, you're left with a piece of glass that is sorta shaped like a water droplet, hence the name. It is methodically peculiar because the front end of Prince Rupert’s drop is industructictable when hit with a hammer but yet, it can shatter with a single puncture to its tail.

What makes a Rupert's drop so strong under compression?
To understand the layers within Prince Rupert’s drop, you need some idea of what these layers comprise. Molten glass is bigger the more heat within because of the thermal expansion coefficient that assures us that heat decides how big the glass will become, solid glass is stronger, stertier glass, and cooling glass for when alternating between both other states. The cooling glass shrinks and pulls in on itself. Think of it as a handful of microminiature parts of glass within trying to unite with the other kinds of glass around itself. The outside of the drops form acers when it solidifies in the cold water when it changes into cooling glass as soon as the first layer is dropped. The drop becomes extremely high because it is circular in form, so while the outside is solid the inside cools down while compressing to make it much stronger because of the tension build up. Once it hardens in a full solid as soon as it's completely cooled down, it becomes a Prince Rupert’s drop.

What causes Rupert's drop to shatter?
The Prince Rupert’s drop shatters when a link on the tail is cut, the storend up testion is unleashed, it travels down the line feeding of its own energy. The difference between a chemically induced reaction and Prince Rupert’s drop reaction is that it isn't chemical potential energy. Prince Rupert’s drop has instead mechanical strain energy.

How fast does Rupert's drop shatter?
The V failure front is the measured velocity of how fast it shattered.
What safety equipment do you need performing these tests?
  • Hammer
  •  Metal rod for glass
  • Cube Metal bucket
  • Anvil
  • Lighting
  • High speed camera & miro camara
  • A phantom v1610
  • Industrial Tweezers
  • Eye protection goggles/glasses/face mask (main safety)
  •  Polarized glass/Polariscope (To research the inner layers)

SST 2022 year 10 topic, goals setting and reflecting.

These are my goals for 2022

  1. When I need help I know to ask my matua/whaea for example or search on my own.
At the end of this term, I want to be able to say that I achieved my goal of achieving merit or higher.

  2. One piece of advice for myself this year is to have a reflective journal to remember the important lessons I had studied.

  3. One thing I was proud of from last year is that I managed to prepare myself to get through the year on time and also had over average scores on tests.

  4. My main focus this term is to recover myself by gathering information I may need for the rest of the year and settle down/recuperate myself to be engaged.
all my subjects while increasing my confidence.

  5. These are my action steps to help me get there:
Organize myself to be sufficient and attentive.
Participate in more activities for more confidence.
Help myself to the information within the library.
Getting myself out of my comfort zone by playing in a sport( either soccer or hockey).
Become a role model and a good friend.
